Oar Or Ore

2016

Hardwood, steel and bronze

Paddles function as movement, whilst an anchor represents stability: a difference between action and inaction. Things are either/or, but with the paddles on each side, it is ‘either AND oar’.

Isn’t it absurd to paddle with an anchor?

The work explores this paradox.

Oar Or Ore was exhibited as the companion piece to Lighfboat in the 'Smalls Gallery' at Swell Sculpture Festival, 2016.
